FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about 4RunRun Toyota push button switches.

Do I need a relay to use this switch?

Yes — a relay is required. These switches are signal-only switches designed to carry a low-amperage trigger signal, not the full power load of your accessory. Running a high-draw accessory (like lights, a compressor, or a winch) directly through the switch without a relay will overload and damage it. A relay protects both the switch and your vehicle wiring.

What is the difference between 32mm and 38mm switches?

The numbers refer to the width of the switch blank that fits into your dash or panel:

  • 32mm × 22mm — fits 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner (2010–2024), Tacoma (2012–2015), Tundra (2008–2021), Sequoia (2008–2022), and similar newer Toyota models.
  • 38mm × 22mm — fits 4th Gen Toyota 4Runner (2003–2009), FJ Cruiser (2007–2014), and similar older Toyota models.

If you are unsure, measure your blank switch opening before ordering.

Which switch fits my vehicle?

  • 32mm: 5th Gen 4Runner (2010–2024), Tacoma (2012–2015), Tundra (2008–2021), Sequoia (2008–2022)
  • 38mm: 4th Gen 4Runner (2003–2009), FJ Cruiser (2007–2014)

Not listed? Measure your blank switch cutout — if it is approximately 32mm wide, order the 32mm version. If it is approximately 38mm wide, order the 38mm version.

What is the dual button switch for?

The dual button switch has two independent buttons in one unit, allowing you to control two separate accessories from a single switch panel opening. Each button operates independently and requires its own relay.

How many relays does the dual button switch require?

Two relays — one for each button. Each button carries its own signal and needs its own relay to handle the accessory power load.

Does the logo on the switch light up?

Yes. The 4Runner logo (and other icon designs) is backlit and illuminates when the switch is powered on. The LED color and behavior depend on the specific switch model.

How do I wire the relay?

Our relay wiring example walks through a standard positive-trigger setup using the relay we sell. Most accessory installs follow this pattern.
